Assembly & installation of Solazone pool heating

Solazone pool heater construction

The Solazone Evacuated tube solar pool heater is made from quality stainless steel manifold construction, and borosilicate glass evacuated tubes with an internal solar selective surface.

The swimming pool water is circulated through the evacuated glass tubes where the energy from the sun is passed into the pool water, which returns directly to the pool.

The temperature rise in the water will depend on the water flow rate. the sunlight conditions and the tilt angle of the glass tubes.  A minimum of 25 degrees is optimum for best performance.

Installing the tubes almost flat will result in poor heat transfer from the water in the tubes to the water going to the pool, as this heat is collected by convection to the manifold at the top of the solar collector.

Location and siting the solar collector

Ideally, the solar collector should be installed in a position where the glass tubes will get the most sunlight.  Early in the day and late in the afternoon the sunlight will produce less heat that in the middle of the day.  Locating the solar collector on a 20-degree roof will give good convection of the heat collected in the glass tubes up to the top manifold to be returned to the pool.

A north-facing roof is probably ideal, but it is not critical as the round tubes will collect the sun’s heat from a wide angle of incidence.  Be prepared for reduced heat collection if the tubes are facing away from the sun (eg south-facing roofs)
