Plasmatronics Solar Regulators
Plasmatronics PL series Regulators
Plasmatronics Australian-made PL series of charge controllers that give you the freedom to operate your solar power system the way you want to.
- They offer complete control over the charge cycle, plus an unprecedented amount of useful information about current and past performance.
- PL regulators help to protect the system with a built-in low battery disconnect switch.
- In addition, the versatile event controller can switch power on or off according to criteria set by the user. This allows the PL to do extra tasks such as switching a light on at night or keeping a water tank full by operating a pump when needed.
- The user can select either Pulse Width Modulation or slow speed switching.
- Regulation can be done in both series and shunt modes.
- Other features include backup generator control and charging a second battery.
Informative Display shows battery voltage, charge current, amp-hours in and out of the battery, the load being drawn from the battery, and which part of the charge cycle the battery is in.
Easy to maintain Information is available for the past 30 days – so even if the user doesn’t remember what happened, the regulator will.
Well Connected With the optional PLI interface and PL com software, the user can access can be read or settings adjusted. This can be done remotely using a modem.
Versatile Built to handle l2, 24 and 48V systems and allow complete control of the regulation cycle mean you can use it almost anywhere.
Adjustable: All settings are adjustable and are stored in a non-volatile memory.
Display: User friendly alphanumeric LCD gives you words to explain the numbers. Energy Metering: Shows daily charge and discharge amp hours.
Three Step Regulation: Boost, Absorption and Float modes with an optional periodic Equalisation mode.. Can switch in series, shunt or series & shunt modes.
History: Records charge and load amp hours, max and min battery voltages and state of charge for the last 30 days. Remembers how much was really collected and used.
Generator Control: A sophisticated generator controller is included with four different modes of control available and a quiet time option.
Event Control: A versatile event controller allows the load to be turned on or off under a user selected set of conditions. Can be used for lighting, pumping, frost control etc.
Alarm: There is an adjustable low or high battery voltage alarm.
Second Battery: When the main battery is full, use the waste energy to charge an auxiliary battery. The PL supplies a signal to switch a relay to the second battery.
Remote Control: A computer can communicate with the PL using the PLI RS232 interface. Data can be downloaded and settings adjusted from far away.
Protection: Protected against short circuit, reverse flow, lightning. Low battery load disconnect function built in. Current limit for over heat or over current. Conformal coating applied to protect against corrosion.
External Shunts: Two external shunts can be connected using the DC isolated PLS adaptor.

Demonstrating set up of twin PL40 regulators in master and slave configuration, using PLA & PLI Interface.
PLA
The PLA allows up to 3 PL series charge controllers to work together. The PLA provides a common communication interface, four alarm or control channel outputs, and can control a separate load control unit called an LS1.
The PLA makes system performance data retreival easier by providing a PC compatible way of collecting system total information.
PLM
Remote monitor allows remote access using one PL series. One button operation and audible alarm.
PLS2 Shunt adaptor
This allows the PL regulator to also read what goes in an out of the batteries, apart from through the regulator, and allows the regulator to indicate total input, total output, and percentage state of charge of the batteries.
Also required is a suitable shunt, and the WYS or WZS connecting cable.
PLI Serial Interface
The PLI is an RS232 interface for Plasmatronics PL series regulators. It allows data communication between a computer and the regulator (via a modem if necessary).
The PLI uses optical coupling to prevent problems due to ground potential differences. This means that there is no electrical connection between the computer side and the PL side.
The energy to operate the PL side is drawn from the battery bank connection of the PL controller. The energy required to operate the computer side is drawn from the computer serial port connection.
The PLI is a device to allow the PL series solar controllers to communicate with a computer. The PLI can be connected to a computer with a standard IBM serial cable.
You can also connect a modem to the PLI.

Plasmatronics PR series Regulators
PR Series regulators– A simple two stage regulator for charging liquid electrolyte lead acid batteries from photvoltaic panels. It uses a rugged power mosfet and switches on the negative side.
The PR1210 regulator works like an intelligent switch between the battery (-) terminal and the solar (-) terminal. Charge current flows into the battery until the battery voltage rises to the boost maximum of 14.6 volts. The regulator then switches to float mode. The current is then switched off and the battery voltage slowly falls. When the battery voltage drops below the float cut – in voltage (13.4 v), the current is switched on again until the battery voltage rises to the float maximum of 14.0 volts. The charge current is then switched off. The regulator switches the current on and off to keep the battery voltage between the float maximum and the float cut in voltage. When the battery has been discharged enough for it to fall below the boost cut in voltage (12.5 v), the unit will switch back into boost mode. DO NOT attempt to test this regulator without a battery connected. This is not a linear regulator. The PR1210 is ideal for camping, boating and other one or two panel solar applications. It features brass inserts and screws in the terminal block and is fully enclosed in resin. The PR1210 is not adjustable.
